Stearns & Foster Mattresses

Posted by in Stearns & Foster

Stearns & Foster mattresses are now part of the Sealy bedding group following its purchase of them in 1983. However, the first one of these to be produced was back in 1846. The company was formed by George Stearns and Seth Foster and was based just outside of Cincinnati. Today, although part of the Sealy bedding group it is one of the oldest companies in the USA to be manufacturing such items for the home.

Stearns and Foster Mattress ReviewAlthough they continued to make their mattresses in the same way throughout the 1900’s a decision was made in 1994 and the entire range was redesigned. Although many thought this was not a wise move customers who purchased the new range of Stearns & Foster mattresses were more than happy with them.

I was about two thirds of the way through my pregnancy when my husband Tim finally relented and purchased a mattress for our bed. After looking at what was available and doing some research we decided to go with one of the Stearns & Foster mattresses that our local bedding store was doing an offer on.

Since purchasing ours I absolutely love it as it has made a real difference to me when trying to get a good night’s sleep. As I get towards the latter stages of my pregnancy I have suffered quite badly from pain in my joints and every morning I was waking up in quite a bit of pain.

However, now I sleep on one of these Stearns & Foster mattresses I am finding it provides my joints with all the support they need. Certainly at this time sleep is very important to me and although I may not be getting as much as I hoped it is the quality of sleep that this mattress is providing me with is proving more important than the amount.

We purchased one of the Stearns & Foster mattresses from Macy’s several months ago and have been pleased with the money invested. My husband Jack suffers from back problems and since investing in this one the problems doesn’t seem as severe.

However, this wasn’t our first choice mattress and we tried out a number of different models made by this company before choosing their Comfort Tight model. The first model of the Stearns & Foster mattresses we tried was made from memory foam and I felt as I was drowning this was because the pillows were too soft and the main area of the mattress was too firm. However the model we did choose is just right and each night now we sleep as well as we did when we were younger.

We have been owners of one of the Stearns & Foster mattresses for more than 2 years now and I have to say that I am not impressed with the quality of these. Unfortunately, since purchasing ours it has begun to sag on both sides and a lump has seemed to form in the middle. Neither I nor my wife Joan are very large people and we cannot understand why these problems have arisen.

After living with these problems for so long and not really getting a good night’s sleep at all we have now decided it is time to replace it. After looking at what was available we’ve decided to opt for one of these mattresses made from memory foam in the hope that we can put our purchase of this one of the Stearns & Foster mattresses behind us.
